About the Job

Playing age: 16 A Russian-speaking immigrant who is knowledgeable about her family’s folklore and uncomfortable in ordinary social situations. She wants to appear intelligent, she often explains too much, misses sarcasm, or becomes more intense than the moment requires. Her awkwardness should be specific and occasionally funny. She is not a passive victim. Mila is proud, obsessive, socially hungry, capable of misreading others, and capable of explosive anger. Her guarded physicality opens into an intense choreographed transformation. - Fluent or highly proficient Russian; authentic Russian accent - Comfortable with panic, crying, movement, water, dirt, and night exteriors - Dance experience helpful but not required - Riding a bicycle ACTING REFERENCE: Rosetta’s (Luc Dardenne and Jean-Pierre Dardenne) for physicality, shame that she carries and need to belong. Mila shouldn't be played as "cute," "quirky," or “witchy." Rosetta is ref for emotional truth, not for worldview.
